Fatwood ID Video

I found this video this morning on YouTube and think it really does a good job of covering the identifying characteristics of a fatwood stump.

If you're in an area with old growth pine trees you're likely to find your own lifetime supply of fatwood.

Thanks for reading,

Good video, thank you for sharing your fatwood find with us.

"Fatwood" is an unfamiliar term here in northern NH. I will check out coniferous stumps in this area to see if this occurs in species that grow in these colder climates.

If you find a well preserved stump and it smells strongly of kerosene it is probably fatwood.

I don't know if other tree species will leave behind fatwood-like stumps and would be interested to hear just what you find.

Thanks for your comment,

B
