We're Back IN!
After months of pressure, Jake finally caved and he has agreed to rejoin the Cub Scouts this fall.
Woo-Hoo! Now I can be a Den Leader again.
Yeah, one more thing on my plate but this is a great stage to teach the boys more valuable skills for the outdoors and life in general.

I think Backyard Bushman Brian will tell you the same thing I will that it's a struggle for guys like us to be in the organization unless we're given a bit of freedom from the nonsense.
The organization is inherently better with people like us involved than it is without but it seems the organization doesn't see it or agree with it.
I figure it's far easier to fight 'em from inside than out...

I just entered your site for the first time and your "Woo-Hoo" brought a smile to my face. You are correct, as a parent it is our responsibility to teach our children the skills to prepare them for life and Scouting is a great tool to that end. As leaders we take on the added responsibility of teaching others who may not have a parent who is capable of or willing to teach those skills. I commend you.

I was a leader the first year, and then got fed up. We gave it a break for a year. We are back in this year too, but not as a leader. I won't give my time running the politics and organizing small details. Instead, I am planning on 100% of my time on fun, useful, and fun skills. If they earn something because of it, they do. If not, I am sure they will have fun and learn something too.
We will see how it goes :)
